Why choose merino wool for your child?
Merino wool has many good properties that are beneficial in several ways. Merino wool does not itch. Wool is measured in "microns," a unit of measurement that indicates the diameter of the wool fiber in the yarn. The lower the number, the finer the wool and the less it itches. Wool with a micron count above 28 tends to itch, whereas wool with a micron count below 28 does not itch. Merino wool is a perfect material for children with delicate and sensitive skin, as the micron count ranges from 17.5 to 24.

Merino wool is temperature-regulating and water-absorbing. Merino wool consists of very fine and crimped fibers that create insulating air pockets. The small air pockets help absorb and trap moisture evaporated from the body, acting as an additional layer of warmth that helps maintain body temperature. Merino wool can absorb up to 35% of its own weight in water without feeling wet, which makes wool a material that can be used all year round.

Småfolk merino wool is easy to clean. A good property of wool is that it is self-cleaning. The wool naturally contains lanolin, which combines with moisture and salts from the skin (or urine) and saponifies, causing sweat odors to disappear. We recommend hanging the wool to air out or over a chair back and not washing it until the clothing is actually dirty. The wool from Småfolk has undergone an easy-care treatment so it can be washed normally in a washing machine. Småfolk recommends washing with detergents specifically designed for wool care. The raw wool is 100% mulesing-free. The wool is treated and processed according to Oeko-Tex Standard 100.
